  • What EV Charger do I need ?

EV Chargers are rated in an electrical power rating term known as Kilowatt's (kW). There are many different looking ev chargers on the market offering the same or similar specifications. The higher the kW rating of the charger the more powerful it is.  Ev chargers are supplied untethered or tethered. Tethered means it will have with a fixed charging cable connected to the charger. Untethered means it wont have a charging cable and you must plug in your own charging cable. The plug connector attached to the cable is known as a Type 2 in the UK.  The vast majority of electric vehicles in the UK will use the Type 2 plug connector. Your car manufacturer will supply you with a standard ev charger with a 3 pin plug. This will allow you to charge the vehicle from a home plug socket. This is the slowest form of charging and typically takes 48hours to fully charge your electric car battery. The fastest option for  homes with off street parking is a 7kW smart ev charger. Homes that have three phase in coming power can start with a 22kw ev charger installation. This needs to be varied first by an elctrically trainned professional. Bigger homes and Business premises generally have three phase power. Three phase will allow you to start as high as the 22kW ev charger range. However, there is the possibility to extend beyond 22kw's and go even more powerful up to the Rapid Charger range of from 40-60kw. This will all depend upon your usage and electrical supply to the building.

  • Can I Charge My Electric Car at Home?

Yes you can charge your electric vehicle at home. You will need to have off street parking to allow safe running of the cables to your car from the power source. You can charge your car with the UK 3 pin domestic plug cable supplied with the car. Alternitively you can upgrade to a fast ev charging solution, starting from the 7kw home ev charger installation range.

  • Best Home EV Charger?

There are a number of different looking chargers and specifications on the market. What defines an ev charger as the 'best home ev charger' is really user dependant. Here's some questions to ask yourself when deciding what ev charger specification is best for you and your home.

    App controlled?

Our app will allow you to control your ev charger from your smart phone or android device. The benefits from this are that you can schedule the start and end time of the charging period. This will allow you to benefit from electric off-peak charging tariffs your electrical energy provider may offer.

    Tethered or Untethered?

Our chargers are tethered meaning they are supplied with a 5m long fixed cable terminating in a type 2 plug for use in the UK. This is ideal for instant plug and play users. You can get untethered ev chargers which will require you to plug in your own charger cable. This will be the preferred option for users that want a more minimalistic looking installation.

    What is the Warranty Policy?

Ev charging is what we call a critical charge supply. In the event your charger fails, this could leave you unable to drive and even get to the nearest public charger. The havoc a flat ev battery presents is something none of us want to face. So not only is it important you have a quality product, its equally important that the replacement policy of the installer is that of urgency. Most EV Charger installers offer varied different chargers on the market. These all supply similar warranty periods of 1-2 years on ev chargers. If the charger fails, the installer will be required to return the charger to the supplier/manufacturer. This will in most cases require testing and a warranty claim being submitted before your charger will be replaced. Here at Car Charger UK as a manufacturer, supplier and installer we offer a next day replacement warranty policy on all our ev charger installations. If your charger fails, an engineer will attend the next day to investigate. They will have a replacement charger with them in the event we need to replace the charger.

  • Can I Charge My Electric Car At My Business Premises?

Yes you can charge your car at your business premises. Business premises will have incoming 3 phase power supplies which allow faster ev charging solutions. Our 22kW ev charger is the perfect starting point for fast charging solutions at your work place. Pole mounted fast ev chargers can be installed convieniently in front of car parking spaces. Our built in app control gives business owners the ability to limit the charging power delivered to each vehicle. RFID tags can be issued to your staff who are athorised to start and stop charging sessions.

  • Why are Electric Vehicles and EV charger sales at their all time high?

By 2030 the sale of new diesel and petrol vehicles will come to an end in the United Kingdom.

In the run up new home builds, under building regulations, are required to install preparations for EV charger installations. Supermarkets and workplaces are now also required under new legislation to install electric vehicle charge points.

2021 saw a 74% rise in Electric car sales from 2020. Therefore, the demand for EV Charger Installation projects is rapidly on the rise.

Home EV charger installs for homeowners with off street parking are a simple retrofit. Those who do not have off street parking rely on the public charging network.

The public EV Charging network is still in its infancy. There are major electric grid infrastructure upgrades in place to accommodate the emerging electric vehicle revolution.

    New non electric vehicle charges

The ULEZ zone in London recently extended its zone to include the North CIRCULAR (A406) and South CIRCULAR (A205).

Electric vehicles are completely exempt from the charges in the ULEZ/LEZ/CC zones.

However, all other vehicles will pay:

    Congestion Charge - £15 (ALL Non-ELECTRIC)

ULEZ - £12.50 (VEHCILES NOT MEETNG EMISSIONS STANDARDS)

LEZ - £100 (VANS, LORRIES, MINIBUSES NOT MEETING EMISSIONS STANDARDS)

In addition to these London emission charging zones, as of 2022 Manchester and Bradford join in ‘Clean Air Zones’ charges.

What is a clean air zone?

An area where targeted vehicles are that do not meet the clean air zone standard will pay a daily rate if they travel within a Clean Air Zone.

This has been put into place to help improve the quality of air. The U.K Government hopes that these changes will discourage drivers with vehicles not meeting emission standards. Gradually pushing out the use of non-electric cars.

    Clean air zones

    • Bath has a Class C clean air zone.

    • Birmingham has a Class D clean air zone.

    • Portsmouth has a Class B clean air zone.

    Future clean air zones

    • Bradford start charging in 2022.

    • Greater Manchester will start charging on 30 May 2022.

Britain's first ZEZ (Zero emission zone) pilot scheme has now been approved!

The ZEZ zone is being piloted in Oxford city centre and starts on 28th February 2022. Depending upon your vehicle emission levels there will be a daily charge for entering the zone. The charges will apply from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The daily fee will cover your vehicle for a whole day, allowing you to enter and leave the zone on multiple occasions. Vehicles that are parked within the zone and do not move will not be charged and no vehicle will be banned. An introductory charge rate begins on the 28th February 2022, however the fees will double in August 2025.

    The charges are:

    ZEZ (0g/km CO2) - £0

    ULEV (Emits less than 75g/km CO2) - £2

LEV (Vehicles with four or more wheels that meet the Euro 4/IV petrol or Euro 6/VI Diesel Standard) -£4

All other vehicles (not meeting above standards) - £10
