Tesla Cybertruck

"Better utility than a truck with more performance than a sports car" - Tesla

The Cybertruck model had initially been unveiled in 2019 but delayed production twice from late 2021 until late 2022. Reserving a Cybertruck in Europe or Asia is no longer possible, the ‘Order Now’ button has now been replaced with a ‘Get Updates’ button. As a result, it’s only possible to order a Cybertruck in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico.

How has this affected manufacturing for Tesla's fully electric vehicles?

Elon Musk suggested Tesla may stop taking orders for new cars, due to issues with supply and production. Tesla has already said the firm won’t launch any new models before 2023. Production of the Cybertruck has faced several delays because of various supply chain issues. Elon Musk believes the Cybertruck should reach “volume production” by 2023, alongside the new Tesla Roadster and Semi truck. Elon has stated the brand “should” have solved its parts supply issues by 2023. The removal of the order button This deals another blow to wannabe cyber-truckers who are already not happy with Elon Musk’s confirmation (during Tesla’s 2021 financial report) that the company won’t launch any new models in 2022.

This is unfortunate but not unexpected news from the electric car company. Tesla didn’t share a timeline for the release of the fully electric Cybertruck aside from “hopefully come next year.” The company didn’t detail new specs, features, changes, or a possible price. However, that’s not where the potential bad news ends. In 2019, when the Cybertruck made its original debut, it was planned to start at around $39,900. Musk hinted the company is having issues producing the Cybertruck at a price people can afford, especially considering all the extra features it’s adding to compete with Rivian, Ford, and Chevy.

What to expect from Tesla in the future

CEO Elon Musk will instead concentrate on the Tesla humanoid robot, AI, and its full self-driving software throughout 2022. Increasing production of existing fully electric vehicles, making factories more efficient, and developing new technologies

As for full self-driving (FSD), Musk said, “I would be shocked if we do not achieve full self-driving safer than a human this year.”

The company plans for significant strides in software and AI. Tesla wants to apply these significant strides in current vehicles. Subsequently, delaying working on the Cybertruck till next year. The Cybertruck's roster is set to include a new range-topping quad-motor version. This move is to assist the Cybertruck in standing out from the numerous electric pickups that have arrived. The Ford F150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T, the Hummer EV, and Chevrolet Silverado EV are some of these.

The growing popularity of electric cars is increasing the demand for raw materials to make car batteries. As a result, leading to further supply issues in the future.
