  • What is Rapid charging ?

Public rapid ev charging is the future for ev mobility.

High power direct current(DC) charging via the ccs-2 connector on an ev is known as rapid charging. You can achieve 50-80% charge from a rapid charging  session in 15-20mins (150kW Super Charger+). Rapid dc charging  helps reduce indidivdual charging sessions and free up the public charging network.

The speed of the charging sessions depends on the rapid charger power and the vehicles battery capability.

  • Why we currently offer 60kw and 120kw?

The vast majority of rapid chargers in the UK offer 50-60kw rapid charging sessions.

There are also a limited amount of 350kw super chargers in the UK .

Why not supply all commercial ev charger installations with 350kW Super Chargers you may ask.

The simple answer is the more powerful the charger, the bigger the demand on the national electric grid.

The grid, like all existing infrastures, needs time to expand and grow with all the new ev charging demands.

This will require new cables laid, new substations and extentive road works.

In the midst of this of growth, 50-60kw chargers are great retro fit solutions that minimize grid demand and your site power infrastrure upgrades. Providing a rapid commercial ev charger installation thats a balance between good rapid charging sessions and minimal network disturbance.

  • What type of Rapid EV Charger Installation do I need?

Theres two factors to consider in the answer to this question:

    • Is this for public monetized usage
    • How many charging bays are required

An assessment of the electrical supply to your site is required. Rapid charging will a require a new low or high voltage connection from the existing power grid.  Two rapid chargers (50-60kW) demanding between 69kVA - 200kVA will need a new low voltgae connection. Four rapid chargers demanding above 250kVA will require a new high voltage connection and your own site substation to be installed.

22kw Business EV Charger Installations can provide a full electric vehicle charge in an average 5-8 hours. The 22kW EV Charger requires 3 phase power on your site. These would place an additonal  60-65kVA demand on your premises and may be able to be supplied from your exisiting electrical consumer board.

What type of commercial connection do you need?

A Bank of Rapid EV Chargers

For 4+ rapid chargers (250kVA+), you will likely need a new electrical connection from High Voltage (HV) distribution network

This will require an onsite substation.

A Couple of Fast or Rapid EV Chargers

For 2 fast or rapid chargers (69kVA to 200kVA), you will likely need a new electrical connection from the Low Voltage(LV) distribution network.

A Couple of Fast Chargers

For a couple of fast chargers at a workplace (up to 69kVA), you will likely be able to connect to your existing supply through the distribution board.
